One of my favorite things to do with Chapel is to show different backgrounds throughout the comics, and eventually connect these backgrounds so the readers gradually get a fuller picture of the world Chapel inhabits. I did that here by showing the physical connection between Chapel’s backyard and her kitchen! The back lawn and large oak tree you may remember from “The Flying Dervish.” Will Chapel ever retrieve the Frisbee she got stuck in the tree in that comic? I guess we’ll have to find out! The area with the tulips and deck chair was first shown all the way back in Season Two in “Woes of Easter Bunnies,” and the porch was first shown in another Season Two comic, “Humidity Horror Story.” I’ve shown the kitchen several times before but if you notice, I change the design and details slightly every time.

Chapel totally deserves to be a goddess. Especially a goddess of hats.
ilovepie81 11/1/13
I agree. Let's make this happen!
 Emma  11/7/13

Hehe, I love Greek mythology.
Chloe 8/22/13
Me too.
 Emma  9/20/13
Greek myths are my favorite subject in school. BTW I met you at APE last year. Are you going to be there this year? Do you know where we can find you if your going to be there where will you be? :D..

Slasher34 10/9/13
I forgot to say who said that ^ comment
Slasher34 10/9/13
No, I'm not going to be there - I had an offer to teach a workshop at the Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, which I took instead. I'll be sorry to miss you this year -- soak up all the good comics vibes for me!
 Emma  10/9/13

I've never read Greek myths...
Ginny Weasley fan 4/24/13
They're fun, you should try them!
 Emma  4/30/13
I read so many in 5th and 6th grade...
Silver 5/14/13

EVERYONE LITERALLY in my grade loves Greek myths because of this book and LA unit everyone did. I am no exception, but I've been captured by Oddyseus, Athena, and all the rest for quite a bit longer than most.
ilovepie81 4/12/13
Greek myths are fascinating, so there's a reason everyone loves them!
 Emma  4/12/13

Emma can I post one of your comic strips on my Facebook ? I wanna show my friends a chapel comic I hope they like it
Julie 3/11/13
I'd prefer if you didn't post them yourself - I post all the Chapel comics to the Chapel Chronicles facebook page, and if you click on the "share" button next to one of them, your friends can see it that way!
 Emma  3/11/13
Oh ok
Julie 3/12/13
I couldent find the chapel Facebook page all I found was a resturant :(
Julie 3/12/13
The "Facebook" button at the top of this website leads to the page.
 Emma  3/12/13
K thx
Julie 3/12/13

Random question but did u take the sats? I did and I litterly felt my brain hurt after all that testing -.-
Julie 3/11/13
No, I didn't.
 Emma  3/12/13
Wait until what grade do we take isats because I'm in sixth
Julie 3/12/13
I don't know, I never had them.
 Emma  3/12/13
Is it SATs or CAT testing?
Miss L.S.P 3/12/13

I <3 Fridays because last day of school before weekend and new chapel comic
Julie 3/11/13
Aw, that's so nice to hear! I'm super happy that Chapel updates make your Fridays better.
 Emma  3/11/13

Speaking of gods and demigods, I really like the Percy Jackson series. Hate the movie though.
What are other people's opinions on book/ movie combos? I think the book is usually better, personally.
Missy 3/11/13
The book is almost certainly better. I don't particularly mind most movie versions of books. I think the LOTR movies are well made, for example. The Lightning Thief really was terrible, though. They tried to compress too much into too short of a time.
Harrison 3/11/13
Yeah... It's disappointing when the movie is so different it's like a whole different story
Miss L.S.P 3/11/13
if they had called it something different, though, i would have liked it, but it is too far of from the book
lizzie 4/1/13
I liked that series! The movie was not my favorite.
 Emma  3/11/13
ah, the percy jackson debate. the movie was terrible, the book was great.
tardis blue 3/14/13
i was so mad at the movie. it ruined the book. i can't believe they are trying to make another one!
lizzie 4/1/13

wasnt the frisbee rhed in the flying dervish comic?
rowan rhed 3/10/13
Red, you mean? No, it was always yellow!
 Emma  3/10/13

huh, did you change the position Chapel was in in the last panel? Just noticing... looks great, though (still)! :)
Miss L.S.P 3/10/13
Yes, I tweaked it a little.
 Emma  3/10/13
looks good, still!
Miss L.S.P 3/10/13
Thank you!
 Emma  3/11/13

Hey I love greek myths too they are just totally awesome and when are you going to have another live stream?
Trix 3/9/13
I love Greek myths, too. But Chapel is right. They are INSANELY weird. Did you know that most of them are related, yet they marry each other ???? GROSS!!!!
3/9/13
Yes, the older myths can be a little strange sometimes...
 Emma  3/9/13
kinda like the older grim fairy tales? disney made them SO much more kid friendly.
lizzie 4/1/13
But the original stories teach you a lesson which you can't find in the Disney movies
Trix 7/3/13
Oh yeah! That part I dont get, I love my family but wouldn't exactly want to be married to one of them...:P
Miss L.S.P 3/10/13
Greek myths are great! I hope to have a Saturday livestream soon, once I start drawing my strips on Saturdays again. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be able to do one!
 Emma  3/9/13

Is there gonna be a part 2?
Julie 3/8/13
To this particular strip? No, I had intended it to be self-contained!
 Emma  3/8/13
Oh I thought she might imagine something as her as a Greek goddess
Julie 3/9/13
That would be very cute! There have already been a few dream sequences in Season Four, though, so I don't think it'd happen...
 Emma  3/9/13
here is an idea Miss Emma for a solo pic for your facebook page. Just draw Chapel AS a Greek goddess (toga and all) presiding in a marble temple.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 3/10/13
That's a cute idea!
 Emma  3/10/13
You should have a little thing where you ask the readers what we think Chapel would look like as a goddess and draw it for you! That would be TOTALLY AWESOME!
Miss L.S.P 3/11/13
I've been planning to do a fashion design contest for a while, but a goddess one would be cute too!
 Emma  3/11/13
That would be soooooo.... Much fun :)!!!!
Miss L.S.P 3/12/13
Oh
Julie 3/11/13

Hat sacrifices daily. Awesomesauce. :)
Novelist-In-Training 3/8/13
I'm glad you like it!! If you were going to require a sacrifice of some inanimate object, what would it be?
 Emma  3/8/13
Oooo....good question. WAIT! I know exactly what: books! :D
Would you want hats? Or something else?
Novelist-In-Training 3/8/13
I'm not like Chapel in that I don't wear hats at all...probably comic supplies, for me.
 Emma  3/8/13
Fun!
Question completely unrelated to this comic strip: Does Chapel like LOTR? If you already said this, I apologize for my forgetfulness.
Novelist-In-Training 3/8/13
She probably does like it!
 Emma  3/9/13
Cool! :)
Novelist-In-Training 3/9/13
me too
lizzie 4/1/13

Haha! Good one! Wow, the frisbee still stuck in the tree..... That'll be a fun
Miss L.S.P 3/8/13
Ugh, accidentally pressed the button too early! Anyway, It should be fun seeing chapel with the frisbee again...
Miss L.S.P 3/8/13
Oops! No worries, everyone makes typos.
 Emma  3/8/13
Yay! I'm glad you're excited for it...Chapel's "Flying Dervish" persona will definitely have to make an encore appearance.
 Emma  3/8/13
Yes, absolutely :)
Miss L.S.P 3/8/13
I'm glad you agree!!
 Emma  3/10/13
Like seriously, you just CAN'T have Chapel and her brother throw something into a tree, and then just have them leave it... you would want them to have some crazy, unique plan to get it out! :)
Miss L.S.P 3/10/13

I guess Chapel was reading the sanitized PG rated version of Greek myths. so many of the true stories of the many myths that people know are a much more R to XXX rated that people realize.

....Chapel and Barnaby STILL hadn't gotten hadn't gotten that frisbee out of that tree! ><
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 3/8/13
Chapel's reading "D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths," which is a version of the myths re-written and illustrated for children. When I was about her age it was really popular amongst kids in my class!

And yep, they still haven't gotten it out...
 Emma  3/8/13
Oh I've read that one
Trix 7/3/13

Hehe the Frisbee is still stuck in the tree.
CrazyChick 3/8/13
Yep! Looks like we'll have to see how they retrieve it, so that the "Flying Dervish" persona of Chapel's can appear once again!
 Emma  3/8/13

I love the details you put into each page! Unfortunately, my usual style of reading comics is to briefly scan the art, paying more attention to the words unless something catches my eye. I'll have to make myself slow down...

By the way, I thought you might be interested to know that I got here from one of your ads on Top Web Comics. It's a lovely ad, and I just had to click on it.
Harrison 3/8/13
Thank you, I'm glad you like them!! And yes, if you want to see all the details, you may have to slow down a little...I'm glad you came from TWC! I hope you stick around and continue to enjoy Chapel every week. :)
 Emma  3/8/13
It'd be difficult to not stick around! There are too many questions left unanswered so far...

"Will Chapel ever get the Frisbee out of the tree?"

"What costume will Chapel wear next?"

And most importantly, "Will she ever beat Fred??"
Harrison 3/8/13
YES! I think the last question is probably the most tempting one...we'll have to see if she ever does beat him! ;)
 Emma  3/8/13
The strips about their competition are probably my favorites. As someone who enjoys board games, I know what it's like to have that one person who's just untouchable. In my case, that "one person" happens to be the majority of people I've played against. :P

Part of me wants to see her win sometime, but the other part is perfectly content to see the antics continue.
Harrison 3/8/13
I find that while some people are "untouchable" at certain games, they're never the best at EVERY game...everyone has their strengths and weaknesses!

I'll probably continue the antics as long as I can, and then we'll see what happens...
 Emma  3/8/13
Of course, a person can't be excellent at *every* game, but some sure seem like it! I think some people have just learned a few universally-applicable traits of a good gamer. Planning ahead, quick thinking, and so on. So they're automatically better than I am at just about any game. Maybe not all of the games...just most.

The suspense is killing me! :)
Harrison 3/8/13
That's very true! And you're reminding me that there hasn't been a Chapel Vs. Fred comic in a while...we'll have to see what happens next!
 Emma  3/8/13
Miss Emma, think about this. Chapel VS. Fred using Pokemons. either that, or Frisbee Golf.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 3/10/13
Frisbee Golf...that's a nice idea!
 Emma  3/10/13
I've tried and failed frisbee golf. Enough said.
Missy 3/11/13
Ooh, a Pokemon battle! Either one would be interesting to see, since they usually stick with board/card games...
Harrison 3/11/13

All hail goddess chapel
Yarin 3/8/13
Yes -- all hail her! Maybe Rupert is her subordinate demigod?
 Emma  3/8/13
hail the prickly demigod
Yarin 3/8/13
Yes!
 Emma  3/10/13
NOPE! Rupert would be the Echidna monster of Greek myth.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 3/10/13
No, he'd be Chapel's subordinate demigod.
 Emma  3/10/13
Evil prickly Echnida monster???? Not really Rupert's thing......
Or at least I think so!!!
Missy 3/11/13
Well, the echidna, hedgehog, and porcupine are all distinct and separate species, a great example of convergent evolution... and the echidna of greek mythos is a half woman, half snake and the mother of all monsters... I'm not really going anywhere with this. Oh, well. Sorry (^_^').
blaidd drwg 3/12/13
Well, it sort of make sense... Which echidna are we talking about? The similarly developed animal to a hedgehog, or the nasty mythological monster?
Miss L.S.P 3/13/13
Well, if it's greek mythology then it would probably be the nasty monster, but in this case I think it was a reference to the similarly developed animal using the name of an already existing greek monster. So I choose to imagine a gigantic and possibly deadly Rupert albeit just as playful as the current Rupert.
blaidd drwg 3/13/13
I don't think Rupert would magically change into the animal echidna, let alone be an evil monster.... that's just not Rupert. I can imagine though, Chapel Playing with a giant Rupert.... similar to what you described. They could fight evil together! But yes, he probably would be the subordinate demigod...... It's more likely because he's Chapels companion and that's just the way they are.
Miss L.S.P 3/13/13
here i plant the idea of the echidna and after awhile, everyone has ran off with it.

I'm happy with this.

Anyway, I thought that Rupert could change into "The Echidna" that was to goddess Chapel like Cerberus was to Hades. but with good tendences.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 3/14/13
Ohhhhhh.... So you were suggesting Rupert as a companion, but in monster form....ah, so Rupert wouldn't necessarily be evil at all! Just one of those things.... But i guess I subordinate demigod would fit him more
Miss L.S.P 3/15/13
well, most of the epic mythical monsters were not gods or demigods. they were commonly ultra long lived or immortal/unageing type.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 3/15/13
