This strip has a pretty interesting history behind it. It’s actually a redrawn version of a super old strip I drew over Christmas 2009. Yep, that’s right! The Chapel Chronicles is actually much older than the existing webcomic.

Chapel herself started as a doodle that I came up with in the beginning of 2009. My mom really liked it, so when her birthday rolled around, I wrote her a poem, illustrated each stanza with a doodle of Chapel, and tied it all together into a little homemade book. It was such a hit that I later made similar books as Christmas presents for my family. From there, I started my greeting card line, and drew some comics for fun at the same time. Over several months, I refined Chapel’s look until I started this webcomic.

So there you have it, a little history of The Chapel Chronicles! When I was starting Season 2, I remembered some of the great jokes I included in the old strips. I decided to cut down this Jenga strip from 9 panels to 4 and redraw it in my current style. I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out! What do you think? Let me know in the comments below!
I love that game. But then, I balance rocks in impossible ways, too... I like your tale of how the comic came about. I have a similar tradition in my family, only I custom-make wrapping paper for all of my gifts. The personally made touch is the best touch!

haha, When I was younger I had a friend I'd play Jenga with on a regular basis. Only catch was we got bored and invented "Honor Jenga" where the current player had to remove one of the outer two pieces as close to the bottom as possible. We got to 14 or 15 Jenga blocks on top of each other with the rest of the stack on top of it. Lots of fun. :D

Mine, too! Especially in games like poker or scrabble, I'll be sitting there for 20 minutes trying to figure out the best move!

YES, those are my two main sources of overthinking. Scrabble I've gotten better at not overthinking, but math tests...don't get me started.

I've never heard of Bandu, is it similar to Jenga? And yes, Chapel's flights of fancy always land her in trouble!

your welcome--is it frustrating to color all the strips? i like drawing girls, but unless I have a picture, i can't draw anything else and don't color my drawings.

It's not frustrating, although it takes longer than the actual drawing does. I've simplified the coloring method down until it's pretty streamlined now, so it's not that bad. If I work pretty hard I can finish one strip in an evening.

Awww, thank you so much! That's so sweet to hear. Actually, Chapel is a simplified version of my art style, so I actually normally draw much more realistically (you can look on my tumblr blog for some of that stuff). But thank you so much! These comments are SO sweet!
