I feel badly for Chapel’s mom in this strip. I imagine she puts up with a lot, not to mention staggering hat bills.
I want my own hedgehog
Emoji hero 5/20/15
The hat bills don't *have* to be staggering. Thrift shops are a good source of hats, and even Rite Aid (chain drugstore, if you don't know what it is) and KMart can be sources. Chapel is really creative; she can take bows and flowers and scarves and paint and glitter and all manner of things to render her hats fabulous. I wouldn't be surprised if she tried her hand at making her own out of homemade felt, or constructing fabric hats - there are some great books available, such as From The Neck Up, for those who want to try their own hands at hatmaking.

Yes, "From The Neck Up" makes an appearance in a later strip! As do thrift stores and DIY-ing.

My cousins used to have an albino hedgehog.
Raye: Daughter of Hades 3/8/13
Oh wow, albino hedgehogs are adorable! I'm envious!
 Emma  3/8/13
The hedgehog is her new hat.

Yes, exactly!

Waait... Aren't hedgehogs from Europe? Where would he be rescued from?

P.S. Say hello to Rupert for me!
Clockwork Wombat 10/12/12
Well, there are hedgehogs in the US too!
 Emma  3/8/13
Wow... are hedgehogs really that demanding?
Clockwork Wombat 9/27/12
Not really, Chapel's just going overboard.
 Emma  3/8/13
I guess your dad was not allergic to hedgehogs.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 11/8/11
Well, um, no. This didn't happen to me, it's all fictional. I don't have a hedgehog, and Chapel's dad doesn't have allergies.
 Emma  11/8/11
My boyfriend has allergies, so the only pet I could get him to agree to was a hedger. Hedgehogs are hypoallergenic!

Yep, although not from the Humane Society.

"The Elegance of the Hedgehog" is one of my favorite books. :)

I've actually only read the first quarter of the book...I really should finish it! I picked it up at summer camp, and when camp ended I forgot about it for the most part.
