Hi guys, just wanted to let you know I went to the doctor today and I officially have mono. The comic will be late this week and I may not actually be able to get it done as I've been hit with crippling exhaustion due to the mono. Thank you for understanding!!

Thanks for everyone’s patience while I was sick this past week! I worked really hard to get this comic out and I think it turned out really nicely. I’m feeling better now, so thank you for all your well wishes!

In panel four, I wasn’t going to show the toddlers themselves as that wouldn’t fit in the format of the comic. So I had to find another way to show that the kids were wreaking havoc. I decided to have splashes of paint, silly string (impossible to clean up) and wayward tails from Pin The Tail on the Donkey to hint at the kids’ destruction. Also, the note on the table asks Chapel not to let Jimmy eat candy, but judging by the spilled candy on the floor and Jimmy’s pee-related accident, I’d say he definitely found the sugar stash.
hehe love the sign in the corner, Chapel do not let Jimmy have any candy ;)
Katara 7/30/13
Yes, exactly!!
 Emma  8/4/13

Oh, Jimmy sounds like such a mischievous boy...
Banana Butter 5/2/13
He definitely is!
 Emma  5/21/13

Tomorrow is going to be the first chapel comic in what feels like forever.
blaidd drwg 5/2/13
I'm glad you're excited for it!
 Emma  5/21/13

I HATE it when my mom does stuff like that!
Izzy 5/2/13
Me, too.
Chloe 5/3/13
Doesn't everyone?
 Emma  5/21/13

What software do you make these on? They're awesome!
Biggest Fan of Chapel Ever!!!! 5/1/13
I use Adobe Photoshop to digitally color the comics, but I sketch with pencil on paper and ink using tracing paper. I scan the traditionally made inks and then color them in Photoshop!!
 Emma  5/1/13
Cool! You see, I draw comics too... getting tired of colouring them all in by hand! :)
Biggest Fan of Chapel Ever!!!! 5/3/13

Hi guys, good news!!! I'm officially back at school as of today and feeling better than ever. Normal Chapel updates will resume this Friday! I have to say again, thank you for all your well wishes, I'm truly touched by all the supportive and encouraging comments (which I'm going to respond to now!) Thank you.
 Emma  4/30/13
Glad to hear your back and feeling better. Can't wait to read your new comic strips.
blaidd drwg 4/30/13
[once again in Agent's Smith's voice]
Welcome back Miss Emma Capps!
We.
Missed.
You.

(i would give you a hug, but i can't due to the internet stopping me. it's kinda hard to reach though the screen to do so)
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/30/13
You realize the matrix came out not last decade but the one before that. XD
blaidd drwg 4/30/13
yes, yes i do. i remember watching it brand new in the theators. yes i am showing my age, but it was one of the best movies ever made. It was made well before most of the posters in here were even born.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 5/1/13
I think even better is telling people the little mermaid came out closer to the moon landing than today.
blaidd drwg 5/1/13
Woodstock was closer to the first Nuke lighting off than it is to today.

on that note, Cleopatra herself lived closer to the moon landings than when the great pyramids of Giza were built.

I also remember when transformers, my little pony, and power rangers were brand new things.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 5/2/13
Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!! You're BACKKKKKK!!!!
Miss L.S.P 4/30/13

Oh my goodness, this is such a sweet comment! I'm sorry you missed me and Chapel. Luckily I'm back to 100% now, thank you for this wonderful message! I'm touched.
 Emma  4/30/13
you have a strong following Miss Emma.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/30/13

Mrs Emma's Mother, can we have an update on Miss Emma's condishion and how are your situation where you are at. We have not heard anything lately and I am sure there is others in here worried from the silence.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/30/13
Hi Taxil, I'm doing just fine! I was lucky to only be sick for three weeks, and as of today I'm back in school. While I did have to miss Stumptown comic convention, I'm just grateful to be back in the swing of things and ready to get going on Chapel again. Thank you for thinking of me!!
 Emma  4/30/13

I hope you're feeling at least a little bit better by now. Keep at it and keep strong. Good Luck and best wishes.
blaidd drwg 4/29/13
I'm much better now and all back to normal, thank you so much! I'm truly overwhelmed by all the lovely comments you guys sent in my absence.
 Emma  4/30/13

Oh! I feel so bad for you! Get well soon. That is a command! And do not worry about the comic this week. We would rather wait for you to feel better.
Ginny Weasley fan 4/27/13
Agreed.
Miss L.S.P 4/28/13
Thank you so much!! I was sad about missing a comic update, but I'm so happy everyone's been understanding. Thank you all!!
 Emma  4/30/13

In high school, I had a...friend, I guess you could call it. We were teammates for eight seasons, the most possible, the first students to do that with our activity at our school in as long as anyone I know can recall. I had certain health issues throughout my four years, and she was there for me as much as she could be. She became leadership, eventually making the captaincy, so she was busy, but she always tried to make sure I was okay or have someone check on me after performances, because she understood as much as anyone on the outside of it could how terrifying my attacks were to me. Our senior year, she came down with mono, and had to drop out of the activity partway through our last season. She was scared, sick, and alone. She had lost her ability to finish her commitment to the team (though in all respects I still consider her our captain and a full team member for that season) and it shook all of us, but I knew that it was her who was hurting the most. I sent her as much support as I could, because I knew she needed it and it was the least she deserved after everything she had done for me. Even though we are separated by hundreds of miles most of the time now, we still have that trust. Both of us have seen so much of the other (that people are rarely willing to show) that it's hard to imagine ever not feeling close to her, despite physical distance. I hope you, Emma, have someone who you can trust like that, or that you find that person at some point in your life. Stay strong. I saw what it did to my girl, and it was horrible, but she came out all the stronger. She was able to finish all her classes, despite it being spring semester of our senior year. She was able to walk across that stage at graduation. She was able to go to college, her school didn't take that away from her even though her grades were probably shaky after missing so much school (~2 months). It's hard, I know. It can be downright terrifying. But know it will get better. And try to find someone who can be there for you, even if it must be from a distance.
4/27/13
Yes... That was awesome sharing. (^^)
Miss L.S.P 4/28/13
I try to share our story when I think it will help. I know Amanda wouldn't mind, in fact, she'd be proud that our experiences might be able to give someone hope.
4/28/13
Wow, what a sweet story! My illness was nothing quite so serious, and I'm thankful for my family for taking such good care of me. Thank you for sharing your story with me.
 Emma  4/30/13

I'm sooo sorry to hear that! :(
GWS,
BUBBLES ;)
BUBBLES5174 4/27/13
Thank you! I'm feeling back to normal now, so comic updates should resume!!
 Emma  4/30/13

This is really random and off topic but has anyone seen the anime Hetalia Axis Powers?
dawnflower8 4/26/13
No but I've heard of it
Dylan 4/26/13
i have, but i prefure the manga version.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/26/13
i haven't read it yet cuz my mom refuses to take me to barnes and noble.
dawnflower8 5/23/13
its really funny! you should watch it!
dawnflower8 5/23/13
No.
Ginny Weasley fan 4/28/13
Not me...
 Emma  4/30/13
its really funny!
dawnflower8 5/23/13

HA!
I'm, ah, back, and I believe there are many more people in the room!! (Who here knows what that's from? :))
Glad you're feeling better! I'm sorry I haven't commented for a while. The story is basically that I will never trust UPS again to take the computer for repairs from the East Coast to the West Coast.
Ginny Weasley fan 4/24/13
Nice to have you back!
Miss L.S.P 4/24/13
(using Agent Smith's voice from the Matrix) Welcome back Mr. Ginny Weasley fan....
we.
missed.
you.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/25/13
Thank you!
Ginny Weasley fan 4/26/13
Although I'm a girl but still... Thank you!
Ginny Weasley fan 5/2/13
(facepalm) sorry, I mess up at times.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 5/2/13
I'm glad you're back, and I'm sorry about your computer!! Hope the situation is all sorted out now :)
 Emma  4/30/13

so col
mrco 4/23/13
Thank you!!
 Emma  4/30/13

Hope you feel better. :(
NarhwalGirl 4/22/13
Thanks! After a few weeks, I'm all back to normal. Yay!
 Emma  4/30/13

OH MY GOD EMMA!!!! Don't feel pressured, just make sure you stay healthy.
Cey 4/21/13
Thank you, that's super sweet! You'll be glad to hear I'm all better now. Taking a few weeks off really helped shorten how long I was sick!!
 Emma  4/30/13

Get well soon Emma!!!!111!!!!one!!!!
Kirbiti 4/21/13
Thank you!!!!!!!
 Emma  4/30/13

Take your time. We can wait. Feel better and be careful or be careful and feel better take your pick. :)
blaidd drwg 4/21/13
Yes, very good advice! I took it easy, and now I'm back to my old self again :)
 Emma  4/30/13

Emma- you did a great job even though you were sick. Babysitting stinks! It might just be me though. I don't like little kids and they don't like me. :(
lizzie 4/21/13
I love little kids personally...which is why I love teaching my comics workshops! But I understand it's not everyone's thing.
 Emma  4/30/13

Oh, dear! Get well soon, Emma. Don't worry about us, we'll keep the place spruced up for your return.
Harrison 4/20/13
Thank you -- I'm so honored by the influx of well wishes while I was gone!!
 Emma  4/30/13

Emma, Take your time and heal properly. Granted you want to continue keeping the strip up to date BUT not at the cost of your health. Take your time. We will be waiting for you.
I would rather wait a few weeks rather than you having to quit because you got worse trying too soon. Please, rest and get better.
scifijoe 4/20/13
Thank you!! I was really worried about Chapel but taking a few weeks off helped speed up my recovery time. I'm all better now!
 Emma  4/30/13

that's the kissing disease lol :)
Dylan 4/19/13
it's commonly known as that. But it's mostly passed along by bodily contact, ANY contact, even indirect contact). you are warned.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/20/13
so fuunny
mrco 4/23/13
I actually have no idea how I got it. Since I'm homeschooled, I don't come in contact with many people outside my immediate family.
 Emma  4/30/13
Mono takes 4 to 6 weeks after you get infected to show symtoms. You could have easily picked it up when you went to NYC or other shows you attended. please think back to where you have been with a large gathering of people in that time frame.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/30/13

OH SNAP! Mono is really bad! Miss Emma might not be back for weeks or months people. Brace yourself, a long wait is coming. I'll still pray for you Miss Emma, so don't worry.

I never had mono when i was a kid, (i had something worse however).

Anyway, as a Doctor (of sorts), i advise you Miss Emma to stay in bed and SLEEP. No kissing your boyfriend, parents, or anyone else for that matter for a long while. Keep your landery, dishes and silverware seperate from your parents and clean them with hot water. you can also use vinager with the soap to clean your dishes. Also, all those "anti-bactial" soaps are not needed. normal soap will work just as well.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/19/13
Dear Taxil: This is Emma's mom. Thank you for your concern. I am crossing my fingers that Emma will be better in 2 weeks. I don't think longer than that.
Marie 4/19/13
um... Mrs. Marie Capps, I hate to break it to you. Miss Emma very well could be suffering from Mono for far longer than two weeks. I PRAY it will be short. But do remember, hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Mono is not a joke and I don't want your whole family's life/health at risk. Miss Emma's disease demands respect. I am pleading with you be careful with Miss Emma Mrs Marie.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/20/13
so funny
mrco 4/23/13
What is?
Ginny Weasley fan 4/28/13
Yeah, I'm wondering that too
Miss L.S.P 4/30/13
Well, I rested up and I'm all better now! 3 weeks of sleeping for almost tem hours a day seemed to be the trick... I'm very lucky that I wasn't sick for any longer as I'm well aware mono can linger for a long time. Thanks for being so concerned about me Taxil, I'm truly honored!
 Emma  4/30/13

Hope u get better soon
Julie 4/19/13
Thanks!! :)
 Emma  4/30/13

Okay, Emma's mom? That was a jerk move. Seriously, why on EARTH would you volunteer Chapel for this without even asking her opinion?! Ugh. Babysitting is the worst unless you're actually good with kids.

Although admittedly, I think if it had just been Calvin, Chapel might have actually enjoyed herself. But with a bunch of rowdy toddlers? No way.
Crimson Doom 4/19/13
Do you mean Chapel's mom?
Miss L.S.P 4/19/13
i will like to think C.M. ment to say Chapel. Miss Emma is in no way should be around ANY young children for a long, long time.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/19/13
I'm not contagious anymore, so don't worry!
 Emma  4/30/13
Chapel's mom, not Emma's mom! I think one can surmise that Chapel would be good with kids.
Marie 4/19/13
Whoops. Yes, I meant Chapel. Dang it, there's no edit button... *insert cat-on-the-keyboard angrish here*
Crimson Doom 4/20/13
I've not babysat but I teach classes, and I personally LOVE kids. And anyway, Chapel's mom knew that Chapel would whine about it, so she needed to be ruthless.
 Emma  4/30/13

Hoe you feel better soon! My best friend's sister had mono a few months back, and I'm PRETTY sure it wasn't pleasant.
Emily15 4/19/13
hi Emily
mrco 4/23/13
Hi :)
Emily15 4/30/13
Thank you!! I was pretty wiped out for the past few weeks, but now I'm feeling way better.
 Emma  4/30/13

Stay Strong, Emma! We still think you're awesome and we're here for you!
Miss L.S.P 4/19/13
Aww, thank you!! I'm back to 100% now, luckily, and all your support means a lot to me!
 Emma  4/30/13

Chapel would never be herself without you Emma and lots of kids look up to you.Be brave and strong and you will be able to get better!
Massie 4/19/13
Thank you!!! I'm all better now, luckily! This is such a sweet note, and I really appreciate it.
 Emma  4/30/13

feel better emma i luv you u r awesome and i hope you get well love you bye
bibi 4/19/13
Thank you so much!!! It took a few weeks, but I'm all better now!
 Emma  4/30/13

Chapel Smith: Desperately wishing she had a squirting flower on about now. :D
4/19/13
Yep, definitely! :)
 Emma  4/30/13

Hi guys, just wanted to let you know I went to the doctor today and I officially have mono. The comic will be late this week and I may not actually be able to get it done as I've been hit with crippling exhaustion due to the mono. Thank you for understanding!!
 Emma  4/19/13
i would give you a hug Miss Emma, but i don't think i should do that just yet. ;-)
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/19/13

Be well. Am catching up on your strips - way behind. But now is the right time to dive in, chuckle, reminisce, enjoy your wonderfully creative mind.
kc 4/18/13
Aw, thank you! That's such a nice compliment. I always love hearing about people catching up on Chapel and reading several at once!
 Emma  4/30/13

Update today: Just wanted to let you guys know I'm still sick. I'll get to comments when I can but my responses may still be a little slow!! Thanks again for your patience.
 Emma  4/17/13
Okay, hope you get better!
Miss L.S.P 4/17/13

"Jimmy peed" ROFL I once took my sisters 10 yo son and 9 of his buds to Chuck E Cheese for his birthday party. Keeping that gang in line was like herding cats. I still have flashbacks to that experience. ;)
XMinusOne 4/16/13
"Herding cats" is exactly how Chapel's probably feeling in this comic! I'm sure everyone's been there at least once.
 Emma  4/17/13

Poor chapel!
Julie 4/16/13
Agreed! I've been in a similar situation.....
Missy 4/16/13
I know! Poor her...
 Emma  4/30/13

I love it!! Awesome! Poor Chapel doesn't get to eat cookies and read :(
coco 4/16/13
I know! She missed out on what she really wanted to do with her afternoon...
 Emma  4/17/13

I can imagine the monotonous voice of the person going; "Jimmy peed."
Xynn 4/16/13
That's exactly how I imagined it, too, so I'm glad that came across!!
 Emma  4/16/13
Also, if you look at the table, there's a note telling Chapel not to let Jimmy have any ca-something. XD
LOLcat 4/20/13

I love that not a single tail actually made it near the donkey...
Dean 4/15/13
Ha ha, I'm so glad you noticed that part! I like to put funny visual jokes into the backgrounds of my comics and this is one of my favorites I've done.
 Emma  4/16/13

Not all Kids are brats. Every other Friday my family and I go down to my church and read a childern's book to the kids who go to the preschool day care center that is run by the church.

It's an inner city church and the kids mostly come from poor families. I also bring some snacks with me so that can something to eat. they love that just as much.

those kids are so sweet natured. but it's heart breaking to learn what some of them are living though.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 4/15/13
Aww, it's good to know you're helping
I don't think she was implying all kids were brats, it was just these specific group of kids... (^ -)
Miss L.S.P 4/15/13
Exactly! And the kids aren't even being too bratty, it's just a reflection of Chapel's inability to suddenly handle a big group of toddlers.
 Emma  4/16/13
I wasn't meaning to say that all kids were brats! I too teach classes and read books to kids in underprivileged areas so I understand where you're coming from, but this comic isn't saying anything bad about kids in general.
 Emma  4/16/13

Haha I love it! So funny, and that Jimmy seems to love trouble...
Miss L.S.P 4/14/13
Is Lights an interesting book?
Miss L.S.P 4/15/13
"Light"? Yes, it is! It's the last book in Michael Grant's "Gone" series, and it just came out a few weeks ago which is why I put it in this comic. The series is amazing and I would totally recommend it, I've been reading it since the first book came out in 2008!
 Emma  4/16/13
Cool!
Miss L.S.P 4/16/13
I want to read it so much
dawnflower8 4/26/13
Yes, he definitely does! Who knows, maybe he's related to Fred somehow...a family of troublemakers (at least for Chapel).
 Emma  4/16/13
Yes, maybe (Oo)
