If you want a sorbet maker that offers amazing and super-flavorful treats, I’d recommend Scream Sorbet which is featured in this strip!! My family and I first discovered Scream last fall and have been hooked ever since – the manufacturers use a special method to create sorbet that has the consistency of ice cream and is, no lie, the most flavorful ice cream or sorbet I’ve EVER had. If you live in California, go check it out! And, yes, they really do carry Lemon-Beet flavor. My favorite is the Lime Mint, though, which actually tastes like real mint leaves! I find most other mint ice creams don’t taste like they’ve ever even been in the VICINITY of a mint plant.

In these comics, it’s usually Chapel who goes to extremes and makes a drama out of everything, so I wanted this strip to have her mom be the perpetrator of all the fuss – and with frozen treats, no less, which are usually the domain of kids’ obsessions rather than adults’. But we all know that adults can be as silly as all get-out, which is what I like to showcase in my comics.

for an awesome flavor of gelato try sea-salt caramel tasty it is
Dem Shadowwolf 3/31/13 reply
That DOES sound tasty!
Emma 4/2/13 reply

I love sorbet, but lemon - beet? And 50 pounds? Yeah - no.
ilovepie81 2/26/13 reply
Yeah, that's too much!
Emma 3/7/13 reply

HA that's really funny!!
Ginny Weasley fan 1/27/13 reply
Thank you!

Hey guys, I have an idea for a game like the ones we used to play all the time in this comments section! Since everyone is discussing food this week, why don't we try and guess each others' favorite foods? If you go first, you have to guess MY favorite food to kick it off! :)
Emma 1/14/13 reply
Um, pancakes?
Miss L.S.P 1/15/13 reply
I actually don't really care for pancakes! They always sound nice in theory, but the taste just doesn't thrill me. My favorite food is sushi!

Let me guess...I bet your favorite food, Miss L.S.P., is pasta!
Emma 1/15/13 reply
Nope! Although I do like it.. Neither is it kumquats of chicken
Miss L.S.P 1/17/13 reply
*or
Miss L.S.P 1/17/13 reply
I'm shooting in the dark, but I will toss out that Miss L.S.P. likes chicken.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/15/13 reply
For L.S.P I will say kumquats
CrazyChick 1/16/13 reply
(thinks about it) grapes?
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/14/13 reply
Nope...it's sushi! I do like grapes, though.
Emma 1/15/13 reply
I love sushi! It's not my favorite though :)
coco 1/18/13 reply
Sushi? .... (shudders) eating raw fish and seafood is just asking to get intestinal parsites. How I know this? don't even ask, you don't want to know. ><

if the sea food is cooked or preserved I'm all for it. other wise, toss it back into the ocean.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/15/13 reply
This is probably waaaay later than you posted that, but I wouldn't eat raw fish either (I'm a vegetarian anyway).
ilovepie81 2/26/13 reply
.... Strong viewpoint ....
Ginny Weasley fan 1/27/13 reply
Taxil, it's kind of hurtful when someone says they like something and all you do is criticize it! Even if sushi's not to your personal taste, I LOVE it, so there's no need to rain on my parade. I'm aware of the issues with mercury, etc., that can be brought on by eating sushi but that doesn't mean it can't be my favorite food, too.
Emma 1/15/13 reply
I LOVE sushi too XD.
blaidd gwael 1/17/13 reply
Miss Emma, my statement wasn't mant to be to hurtful. It was exactly how i felt about it. i never told you not to eat it.

I got seriously sick after I last time ate Sushi. It colors how i look on that food. Is there good, safe, and tasty sushi out there? sure there is, i just can't bring myself so easily to ever touch it again.

there is one other element I tie into why i dislike sushi but it might be a bit off topic.

I said before, i will be honest with you Miss Emma. even if it is hard to deal with.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/15/13 reply
My thought process reading this post......
Oh this looks fun,
Hey I like pancakes,
On so it's sushi,
Well this got ugly fast.
CrazyChick 1/15/13 reply
I know right...it did get ugly fast!
Emma 1/15/13 reply
Yeah, I think I've observed that This week hasn't been the happiest.... Anyway, any more guesses as to my favorite food?
Miss L.S.P 1/17/13 reply
It seems Taxil is one of those people that has a horror story for everything. Archery, Sushi, and half a dozen other things have come up I'm sure. Try not to be too upset with him for his comments like that, I can tell he really does mean well with everything he does and says on here and probably in life as well.
blaidd gwael 1/17/13 reply
Yeah, I don't think Taxil would ever mean any harm, but anyway, I say we just let it all go and forget about it... We don't want to ruin any friendship bonds we have here on the website
Miss L.S.P 1/17/13 reply
I don't think anyone's mad about anything, though!
Emma 1/17/13 reply
That's good! I wouldn't know, I've been more involved in other conversations....
Miss L.S.P 1/18/13 reply
Thank you Blaidd Gwael, it means a lot to me.

well, when you get as old as me, you go though a lot. Not that i would call most of it as "Horror" (with notable exception of working professionally in a serious haunted house show for several years)

What hasn't killed me, either leaves me stronger or scars me. But scars, fez caps, and bow ties are cool in my book.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/17/13 reply
......thanks CrazyChick and Miss Emma. now i have the mental image of Chapel trying to make pancakes and wind up with sushi.. some how. @_@
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/15/13 reply
I've by mistake made pancakes that taste like garlic before.

P.S I just realized that I have a lot of weird food stories
CrazyChick 1/16/13 reply

I was just thinking- I really think Chapel has gotten really mature-looking lately!
Miss L.S.P 1/13/13 reply
I think it's more of an effect of my art style for Chapel migrating closer to my "normal" drawing style, as Chapel herself isn't aging much...however, I do like that she looks like she's getting older even if she really won't get past preteen stage in the comic!
Emma 1/14/13 reply
and I think for a while actually, I just noticed it now! She seems taller and her face looks like she's grown into a teenager..
Miss L.S.P 1/13/13 reply
That's true, but it's more of an art style change than a character style change!
Emma 1/14/13 reply
I see it to! It's interesting for me but, sometimes if i draw a bunch and then stop when i draw again my art style has completley changed!
coco 1/18/13 reply
Oh, okay... That's cool anyway!
Miss L.S.P 1/15/13 reply
I'm happy you noticed it, though. You Chapelites are always so eagle-eyed!
Emma 1/15/13 reply
so then Miss Emma, will you have Chapel grow up in time?
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/14/13 reply
No, she will more or less always stay the same age! Even if I did decide to age her (which I won't), the series wouldn't continue long enough for her to ever reach adulthood.
Emma 1/15/13 reply
The whole not-growing-up-and-not-seeing-the-parents-on-screen thing is so much like Peanuts! (Not that it's a bad thing, I love Peanuts haha.) I'm sure there are other cartoons that do the same thing, but I don't watch a lot of TV so Peanuts is the only one I know of.
Emily14 1/17/13 reply
I love peanuts as well have you read calvin and hobbes
Trix 1/18/13 reply
I <3<3<3 Calvin and Hobbes!!!! Bill Watterson is one of my role models in fact
Clockwork Wombat 1/19/13 reply
That is so true
Trix 1/13/13 reply
Haha, it's cool that you noticed it too!
Emma 1/14/13 reply

I love how you drew barnaby's clothes on the line
trix 1/13/13 reply
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you noticed them!
Emma 1/13/13 reply
And I also like how you did the bricks on the exterior wall and they are pink
Trix 1/13/13 reply
I'm glad you like it!!! I've drawn Chapel's house as pink ever since the first time I drew it from the outside, and I'm glad I did because I think it suits her family's aesthetic sense.
Emma 1/14/13 reply

what watercolours do you use
trix 1/13/13 reply
I don't use watercolors on my Chapel comics, those are colored in Photoshop! For my illustrations and greeting cards that I've made, I use a specific watercolor set called a "Sakura Koi Watercolor Sketch Box." It comes with a special kind of brush made out of plastic, with a hollow in the handle of the brush that you can fill with water and then use in place of a separate water cup. It's a fantastic watercolor set/brush and I would totally recommend it for beginners and pros alike!
Emma 1/13/13 reply
that was a fast reply :) I have heard of that brand and I also have a water brush
trix 1/13/13 reply
P.S. I want to be an illustrator for Stone Soup except I don't have any ideas on what to paint it seems I am having artists block
trix 1/13/13 reply
Well, when you apply to be an illustrator, just include various drawings! They don't have to be perfect. Your actual illustrations that appear in the magazine are ones that Stone Soup will assign to you, and they'll tell you every detail of what you need to paint so you won't have to worry about getting blocked!
Emma 1/14/13 reply
Oh good, then you know how it works! I often have trouble describing the water brush to people who have never heard of it because it's hard to visualize unless you have it sitting right in front of you. The Sakura set comes in various sizes and is pretty cheap, yet durable and high-quality -- I love it!
Emma 1/13/13 reply
Do you use the 12 set or the 24 set?
Trix 1/16/13 reply

Once I had lavender coconut gelato!
Dawnflower8 1/13/13 reply
Lavender gelato sounds AMAZING! I love gelato, but we don't eat it very often as my mom's lactose intolerant.
Emma 1/13/13 reply
So is my mom
Trix 1/14/13 reply
Wow, what a coincidence! Then again, lots of people are lactose intolerant, so it isn't TOO surprising.
Emma 1/14/13 reply
Lactose intolerance is more common than not. In fact, lactose intolerance is how we're "supposed" to be. Most animals do not drink milk past infancy or childhood and we aren't really supposed to, however, a significant percent of the population never stops producing the lactase enzyme when they grow up and these are the people who aren't "Lactose intolerant."
blaidd gwael 1/17/13 reply
I actually know all this arbitrarily from reading a graphic novel called "Evolution: A Study of Life on Earth". It is awesome and more informative than most science textbooks.
Clockwork Wombat 1/19/13 reply
She is? Has she tried goat milk then? maybe that could work. By older brother is Lactose intolerant as well but that worked for him.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/14/13 reply
She drinks soy milk, so it's not a problem. And she takes Lactaid if she wants to eat any other dairy products!
Emma 1/14/13 reply
My mom also drinks goat milk because she is lactose intolerant
Trix 1/14/13 reply
Oh, that's really interesting! I always thought soy milk was the more popular option.
Emma 1/14/13 reply
goat's milk is more flavorful and nutrious than soy milk. but it's not as easy to get as soy milk.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/14/13 reply
I'm sure we could get it around here as there are lots of foods for specific diets here in the Bay Area, but I don't think my mom would want to try it...it took me forever to even get her liking goat cheese!
Emma 1/15/13 reply
Hey now Miss Emma, it is ALWAYS worth to try to get your mother to get into goat's milk.

I have lived long enough to see the results of women who don't get enough calciem in their diet. The last thing i want to hear that your Mother is getting Osteoporosis. For that matter Miss Emma, you and all the young ladies in here should drink more milk. It absoulty help you out in the long run.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/15/13 reply
I wasn't saying I wouldn't try! And you needn't worry about calcium. Calcium supplements along with milk are just fine, and my mom gets plenty -- as do I. I'm very careful about it as I need a tooth implant, and for those whose jaw bone isn't strong enough, they have to have a rib bone grafted into their jaw. Ever since I heard about that, I have been a stickler for getting a good calcium intake.
Emma 1/15/13 reply
(gives Miss Emma a gentle hug so i won't damage her) i know we disagree at times, but i do care for you and your health.

Mango sorbet is made of pure, perfectly frozen win.
GillWeary 1/12/13 reply
Mango sorbet is wonderful!!! Mangoes are my favorite fruit, so naturally I love any dish that includes them.
Emma 1/12/13 reply
My sister has the exact same opinion about mangoes. I prefer peaches.
Clockwork Wombat 1/19/13 reply
It's been awhile sense i had some, however rainbow SHERBERT to myself, beats everything. to those who haven't had any, go get some and try it out. it's like a party in your mouth.
Dr Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
I've never had just plain rainbow sherbert but I've had some delicious punch with rainbow sherbert, and that was one AWESOME party!!
CrazyChick 1/14/13 reply
That sounds great!! Whose party was it?
Emma 1/15/13 reply
Oh I've had it at a lot of party's most recently at a grad party for my friend, But Mr.taxil said that rainbow sherbert was a party in your mouth so I was saying that the punch was an awesome party in my mouth.
CrazyChick 1/15/13 reply
I love rainbow sherbert! I'm more of an ice cream person than a sherbert person, but I still like it a lot!
Emily14 1/13/13 reply
I like sorbet the best as I think it's lighter and more refreshing than ice cream. I don't eat frozen treats very often, but when I do it's often during hot summer when I want something cool and icy.
Emma 1/13/13 reply
I've tried it and it is quite tasty, you're right!
Emma 1/12/13 reply
here is an Idea. Dice up some Apples and pour them over some rainbow sherbert. try it out and post what you think of it?
Dr Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
I don't really eat sherbert or ice cream very often at all, but if I ever do end up trying them, I will let you know.

Elm 1/12/13 reply
Yes, although this will only be one of the few times when her arms will be shown. I only use it when I need to indicate what the parents are doing in a way I can't with just dialogue!
Emma 1/12/13 reply
indeed, it's only a matter of time till she shows up fully on screen. ;-)
Dr Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
Taxil, I really don't like it when you keep on insisting they'll show up on screen when I've told you several times that they won't!! Please don't assume things about the comic, especially when I've told you otherwise.
Emma 1/12/13 reply
....sorry, i was just joking with you Miss Emma. don't take it too hard. but still other people are noticing it as well.
Dr Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
This is actually one of the few times I'll be showing the parents' arms -- I won't use it very often. And one joke is fine, but repeatedly ignoring what I say about my comic makes it so that I can't tell if you're joking anymore!!
Emma 1/12/13 reply
I think i understand your nature a bit more Miss Emma. I don't mean to you so upset Miss Emma and i won't make that same mistake twice.
Dr Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
Oh no, I'm not that upset! Just mildly annoyed is all, and wanted to let you know :)
Emma 1/12/13 reply
Alright then! ^^

... you still not annoyed with this gruff old man are ya Miss Emma?
Dr Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
Of course not!! :)
Emma 1/13/13 reply

I have never tried Lemon Beet, and I would probably enjoy the mint kind better. I have no experience with exotic ice cream as the most "exotic" I've ever tasted is peppermint bark.
Clockwork Wombat 1/11/13 reply
The beet one tastes very, very strange in my opinion, but the mint is WONDERFULLY refreshing. If you live in San Francisco, you can find the sorbet at just about any farmer's market! I would recommend it, it's delicious.
Emma 1/12/13 reply
I live about an hour's walk from a Berkeley farmers' market, so I will look around for kewl ice cream.
Clockwork Wombat 1/19/13 reply
Oh and I love Chapel's hat this week :D
Clockwork Wombat 1/11/13 reply
Thank you so much!! I actually had a different hat in place first, but I redrew it later because I decided it wasn't funky enough. Glad to know my efforts paid off!
Emma 1/12/13 reply

(checks the weather) Good Lord! Miss Emma (and everyone else who live in CA) i sure hope you have a warm coat on! i see there is a monster of a cold snap right over you now.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/11/13 reply
So far it hasn't been that bad where I live, but take that with a grain of salt as I have a very high tolerance for the cold. I was fine taking my mid-morning walk today in just jeans and a t-shirt, but for my nightly walks I've been having to bundle up quite a bit in my mom's wool coat.
Emma 1/11/13 reply
It's been maybe 20ºF colder on average the last week or so mainly over the last weekend. I don't usually consider wearing a sweatshirt until it's below 30ºF which is my measure of my personal resistance to cold. The wind changes everything though.
blaidd gwael 1/17/13 reply
high tolerance for cold relative to CA you might have Miss Emma, but here is a word of advice. you should re-test that notion of yours where it really gets cold like the mid west or my favorit spot Michiagin. if you can take it fine over there, you can say with pride you are resistant to cold.
Dr Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
I've been to Michigan before, and I didn't particularly mind it! I understand how cold it is in places other than CA, though, as my parents are east coasters and constantly lecture me on how good I have it weather-wise.
Emma 1/12/13 reply
Your Parents are right, Michigan can get darn cold! 20 below during the day is not uncommon up there.
Dr Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
Yes, I know! The east coast is totally different from the west coast in that regard.
Emma 1/14/13 reply
Definitely, I have a friend who is going to MIT and hates the cold. . . . . the rest of that should be obvious.
blaidd gwael 1/17/13 reply

Have you watched a very potter musical and what is your pottermore account mine is FlameSword558
Potterhead 1/11/13 reply
I watched a little bit of the Harry Potter Musical at my friend's house...I don't play Pottermore! I made an account a long time ago just so I could get officially sorted (it was Ravenclaw, just as I expected) but I haven't used it since.
Emma 1/11/13 reply
I play Pottermore sometimes, I am WombatFirebolt7497. (-:

I believe I have heard of scream sorbet! I remember trying a sorbet and remembering it as quite tasty... Good job! I also love how ou drew Chapel's Mom's arms!
Miss L.S.P 1/11/13 reply
Scream Sorbet is really great, their flavors are SO GOOD -- My mom's favorite is Valrhona Chocolate, which I must say is the richest chocolate flavor I've ever tasted. Thank you for the compliment, too!
Emma 1/11/13 reply
So they have strawberry? I think that is the one I tasted...
Miss L.S.P 1/11/13 reply
Yeah, they have strawberry! It's really delicious and flavorful!
Emma 1/11/13 reply
Oh always! I bet it would be so hard not to!
Miss L.S.P 1/11/13 reply
Not to what? Sorry I'm a little lost here...
Emma 1/11/13 reply
Oh, I'm just saying it would be so hard not to say something nice at all! Your work is awesome!
Miss L.S.P 1/11/13 reply
Awww, thank you so much! That's SO sweet of you!
Emma 1/12/13 reply

THOSE ARMS! good job Miss Emma! Chapel's mom arm is one of your best attempt to draw arms yet! now if you can apply that to Chapel it would be better. now that we have seen those arms, it is only a matter of time before we see fully on screen Chapel's parents. >)

that ice cream maker sounds like a great free market entrepreneur, i love it! Say, Miss Emma, can you look into seeing that can they make some Bacon and Maple syrup flavored ice cream. or bacon and orange, bacon and lemon, or bacon and lime, or bacon and bacon- ... what? i like bacon and i confess, i am a fan of "Epic Meal Time"
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/11/13 reply
Taxil, this is very sweet! However, you should know that I'm actually 100% able to draw detailled and realistic arms. The art style in Chapel is simplified down so much from what I really draw that I have to hold myself back from drawing at my actual ability.

And no, you won't be seeing Chapel's parents in the comic ;)

If you Google "Scream Sorbet" you can find the list of flavors, but as they only use locally sourced fruit and veggies in their sorbet, I don't think they have a bacon option...
Emma 1/11/13 reply
yeaaaa. about that. We once got from you that we were not going to see Chapel's big brother. now i see it is merely a waiting game till you do draw them. >)

btw Miss Emma, Have you even heard of "Epic Meal Time"?
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/11/13 reply
Actually, when I talked about Barnaby before, I said that I wasn't going to show him YET...ever since Season One I knew I would show Barnaby on-panel. But as you said before, the parents aren't the type to be shown! Their arms are the most you'll get to see, and that's not going to chance anytime soon.

I HAVE heard of "Epic Meal Time"...I tried to watch one video of it once, but it really grossed me out.
Emma 1/11/13 reply
well Chapel's parents should be saved their on screen appreance until they are needed.

Epic Meal Time isn't for kids, but it's not as bad as most make it out for. Also, it is ULTRA MANLY show to boot! it just shows how far people can go with food and still be tasty to eat. ... safe for your fat and cholesterol levels, IT IS NO! they sure are brave to eat some of what they make.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/11/13 reply
Their on-screen appearance won't happen! I promise you!

Anyway, I don't know about it...it's certainly not healthy for the people making it! It makes me feel a little grossed out, but that's just me.
Emma 1/11/13 reply
I like bacon too.... SO YUMMY!
Miss L.S.P 1/11/13 reply
Bacons yummy I don't eat it much because over half my family doesn't eat it though so I don't eat it much but I did have a bacon lollipop once.
CrazyChick 1/11/13 reply
A bacon lollipop?! That's something I've never heard of before!
Emma 1/11/13 reply
they exist. you might want to check out thinkgeek doc com to see more of them.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
(gasp) THINKGEEK IS THE BEST EVER!!!! I often procrastinate by reading ThinkGeek stuff for multiple hours. It is so easy to waste time on X-)
Clockwork Wombat 1/19/13 reply
Wow, you're right, they really do exist. How funny!
Emma 1/15/13 reply
it's amazeing what bacon can be added to these days.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/11/13 reply
I know, it really is!
Emma 1/11/13 reply
Bacon IS quite tasty, but I can take it or leave it...I have some friends who are obsessed with it!
Emma 1/11/13 reply
that just means you need more bacon Miss Emma! does your parents obsess over bacon much?
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/11/13 reply
No, I'm just not super crazy about it! I like it once in a while, but otherwise it's too slimy/greasy for me!
Emma 1/11/13 reply
....i wish i lived closer to you. I would cook you some bacon that would flip for. I know my way around the kitcen well enough. ;-)
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/11/13 reply
Mmmm, some thick cut smoked maple bacon would be a favorite right now, cooked not quite to the point of crispness, still a bit chewy...
I think I just want the iron in it... I seem to have caught the flu for the first time ever... I can see why I hadn't ever acquired it before, it is a miserable experience.
Also, though you may not approve Dr Taxil, I like turkey bacon quite well too!

I don't think I've ever had sorbet, but then again I haven't really liked ice cream since I was about six years old.
Miles 1/12/13 reply
That's a shame you have the flu! I've never gotten it, but I rarely get sick anyway unless I get exposed to it. Did you get a flu shot? I hope you feel better soon, anyway.
Emma 1/15/13 reply
Turkey Bacon is a poor man's bacon, but it still bacon if you don't have any other choice.

Humans are ominvores and we should eat like that. it is how Nature and our Lord have made us, so eating some meat once a day is a good thing.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
Taxil, people might have religious or dietary reasons not to eat meat every day! My family tries to eat meat only a few times a week, as it's not super healthy for you to eat it every single day. We eat vegetarian about 50% of the time, and I really enjoy it.
Emma 1/15/13 reply
I can see religious reasons, however, i must disagree with you over dietary reasons (with exceptions for those who are on hard core diets to really lose weight). I should clearify my earlier statement. Eating meat don't have to be fatty hambuger type of meat, but it covers poltry and sea food (lean or other wise). It also does not have to be huge portions either.

I have lived long enough to see enough about diets. The anti-oxisde diet, the high carb diet, banana diet, vegetarian diet, all protien diet, high fiber diet, and so on and so on. i have just given up on it all.

I just believe that you just eat till you are full, not stuffed. work hard or exersie well. stay away as much as you can from sodas and drink more water. you should be fine.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 1/15/13 reply
Ah, I thought you were talking strictly about red meat, which isn't good to eat every day. This isn't a diet issue with regard to weight or good intake, it's just a matter of how often you should eat certain foods.
Emma 1/15/13 reply
I like both.
Miss L.S.P 1/12/13 reply
no problem with that.
Dr Taxil Necrobane 1/12/13 reply
Oh no, I was just saying a statement
Miss L.S.P 1/13/13 reply
The only bacon I DO not really like are the ones that resemble just cut up pieces of meat.... No fun in that at all!
Miss L.S.P 1/13/13 reply
I love bacon in basically any way or shape or form. I will almost certainly never become any kind of vegetarian as I love meat and eat it waaaaay too much. Also, since I am a Teapot Agnostic (logical and sciencey atheist) I have little restrictions for what I can eat.
Clockwork Wombat 1/20/13 reply
Ah, okay...if you're ever in California, then we'll see.
