actually once you get past the on switch the rest of chobits is kinda BLAH it's not even that racy after that
xero 7/15/12 responder

YES! kudos for giving Chapel one of the coolest hats ever! Father hat! Didn't know it had anything to do with Japanese politics..
Azu is one of the few animes I can watch over and over.
5/16/12 responder

hey have you seen Ouran?
5/11/12 responder

How did you make the anime look so real??!
3/6/12 responder
I know right? Really, that is amazing.
6/23/12 responder

There is a really good website i know where you can search through almost every anime ever and pick and choose to include certain things, like animes meant for girls without any mature stuff, etc. its called i use it to find animes all the time, its really good.
1/6/12 responder

Sorry to post to an older comment but its relevant. ;) There are lots of really good animes out there, meant for people of all ages, you just gotta look.

I think you'd have to copy paste the link directly but that is a list of animes specficially aimed at girls, aged 12 and up. Alot of them deal with high school and romance, but watch out. Some of them ARE more mature than others, but i made sure to remove anything 18+ from the list :p
1/6/12 responder
The poster thingy blocked my link
1/6/12 responder
It's okay, you can just post it again later! And I'm not absolutely dying for new things to watch, so I can wait a bit! Thanks so much :D
1/8/12 responder

In my anime club they decided to watch this but then they had to turn it off after they remembered where the on switch was before we got to that scene
12/9/11 responder

Doubt you'll read this but if you like Azumanga Daioh, you should check out Yotsuba by the same artist. I know you can find the manga ( there is no anime yet) online for free, just can't remember the link
Dutchguy 12/3/11 responder
Oh, I love Yotsuba! Unfortunately there will never be an anime, as Azuma-sensei has said himself he doesn't want an anime adaptation, which is a shame! I even read Yotsuba way back when it was still published by ADV manga, and I've been meaning to pick up the new Yen Press translations for a while.

My favorite anime movies are the Miyazaki ones from Studio Ghibli. Like Howl's Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke.
11/27/11 responder
SAME HERE. I've seen ever single Miyazaki movie MULTIPLE times -- they're the best!
11/30/11 responder
I agree, Miyazaki can make a good work, even though lately he's been becoming more preachy on his poltical views. it gets in his way of his work.
12/1/11 responder
You always sound.....poetic when you comment.
5/17/12 responder
I love Miazaki movies, but I haven't seen all of them. When I saw Castle in the Sky for the first time, I cried at the ending. I admit it.
12/24/11 responder
Have you ever been to the Ghibli museum? I haven't but i want to! My favorite Miyazaki movies are Howl's moving castle and My neighbor totoro.
Has anyone seen his new movie The secret world of arietty?
5/17/12 responder

it might be just me (which it is a lot) or is chapel's hair.....less red than it was before?
11/27/11 responder
I think it's just you, sorry! :)
11/30/11 responder
Um, Emma, its a compliment. I meant that it looks more realistic now, in the older strips its cherry red. Now it looks even more hair-like. Although you're probably right and this is all just me.
12/3/11 responder
Well thank you! I wanted to make it more realistic so I'm glad you picked up on it.
12/3/11 responder
I love little details!!!
12/4/11 responder

I can sympathize with your Pop. I bought my daughter (14 at the time) a CD once, I had heard three of the songs off of it on the radio and thought it was safe. It turns out almost half of the songs on it had multiple uses of George Carlin's 'Seven Words' and her best friend's mother called me up and chewed me out.
Tor 11/23/11 responder
Oh, and wanted to say I found your comic from a comment on Modest Medusa and I have to say you are one amazing kid. Good luck!
Tor 11/23/11 responder
Thank you, and I'm glad there's a fellow MM fan here! And in my opinion swear words aren't anything bad!
11/30/11 responder
It mainly depends how you use the actually..
2/27/12 responder
it not the ......... my mistake!
2/27/12 responder

When you refer to borderline-pronography, there's a single word that sum it up much better; erotic. (I think for anime, they used a japanese word called echhi? mean same thing as erotic.) Your father should have several flag words to look out for on anime; erotic, echhi, um I can't think of anything other keyword to look out for.
Hurlbut 11/23/11 responder
Hentai, guro, yaoi, yuri, fanservice and I think it was ecchi, with two c's.
And don't google any of it :)
11/23/11 responder
I'll let my dad know NOT to buy any anime with those classifications in the future!
11/30/11 responder

I should give you a word of warning, avoid all CLAMP titles until you're older and can handle more adult subjects. The core of CLAMP are great creators, but they are also perverts (to one degree or another) in my view. I should also warn you Miss Emma that Japan's view on sexual openness is very diffrent to ours here in the U.S.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 11/22/11 responder
Nah, stuff like Cardcaptor Sakura, Angelic Layer and Magic Knight Rayearth are fine. The only real warning I'd associate with any of those is that MKR's ending twist is sort of emotionally wrenching. (Also pretend the second season doesn't exist, it's just terrible.)
11/27/11 responder
then there was X/1999, RG Veda, XXXHolic, Tokyo Babylon, Miyuki-chan in Wonderland and i could go on, but i'll stop here. I'm not saying they are Bad creators, i'm just saying they have a bit of a perv streak in them and they generally make more adult themed works.

Oh, and wishing away MKR second season won't make it go away. it's canon after all.
11/29/11 responder
I love MKR, Sakura, Angelic Layer, Tsubasa, and even xxxHolic, so it's not ALL bad! Although I once made the mistake of wiki-ing Miyuki-chan in Wonderland...
11/30/11 responder
JUST Miyuki-chan? thank god you did not see all the henti one shots they made over the years.
11/30/11 responder
I thought I should remind you all the CLAMP write JJBA yaoi. ~*~THE MORE YOU KNOW EMMA THE MORE YOU KNOW~*~
5/24/12 responder

Just bookmarked your comic on Piperka. Very nice addition to my webcomic lists!
Judebert 11/21/11 responder
Thanks!
11/22/11 responder

This exact same thing happened with my sister when she was about 12, except for the manga versions of Sakura and Chobits.

But at least your dad didn't get X (what with it's Saw-level violence and all).
11/20/11 responder
Actually violence isn't a problem for me, so I should totally check out X! Chobits was just way too fanservice-y for my tastes.
11/20/11 responder

Oh my, that must have been fairly awkward...
11/19/11 responder
Yes. It was. So verrryyyy awkward.
11/19/11 responder
By the way, what happened to your old blog? I can't remember what it was called, but I was enjoying reading it. Do you still have it?
11/22/11 responder

This is a bit like what my dad did when I broke my arm 4 years ago. one detail. the stuff i watched was appropriate for a 6 year old.
11/19/11 responder
oh and whats that hat on chapel's head?
11/19/11 responder
Ah, I should've mentioned that in the author's commentary! It's a special kind of hat called the "dad cap" from a *different* anime called Azumanga Daioh. It's not by the same people as the anime Chapel's watching in the strip, but it's very good.
11/19/11 responder
dad cap..... that sounds familiar.....
11/19/11 responder

Chobits is one of the best anime titles I ever watched.. You definitely have to see it in a couple of years, when it will be appropriate for you ^_^

//btw, I am from Russia and I've read all of your Chapel strips now, so you can call yourself famous around the globe now :)
11/19/11 responder
I will rewatch it later on then, I heard it actually gets quite deep by the end -- the beginning part was just a bit off-putting. And that's really fantastic to hear that you're from Russia! Thank you SO much for reading, it means a lot to me!
11/19/11 responder
Yes, it does get quite a bit deeper, though it never really loses the... 'fan-service'y... angle. If it hadn't been for Sumomo, (the neighbor guy's little persocom, [I don't remember if she'd have appeared yet by the time you gave up on the show,]) I probably wouldn't have made it all the way through.

Chobits is basically about Relationships, & follows the maturing of Hideki's view of them. (This view is probably affected by my own personal focus on Relationships)
11/20/11 responder
Agreed, It's more romantic than deep :)
Can't remember anything about maturing, though...
Me! 11/22/11 responder
Huh, okay. That makes sense.
11/22/11 responder
Thank YOU for drawing :) You are really good :)
I was lucky to stumble upon a link to your strip ^_^
Me! 11/22/11 responder
Oh, where did you find the link? Just curious!
11/22/11 responder
Here :)

I was interested in Macintosh story but suddenly this link in comments was more interesting then everything else there :) (think there just was no anime in the macintosh stories.. :))
Me! 11/22/11 responder
Hm, link disappeared...
www . folklore . org /StoryView.py?project=Macintosh&story=Alice.txt&showcomments=1#comments
Another try with extra spaces
Me! 11/22/11 responder
It's okay, I know which article you were talking about anyway!
11/22/11 responder
But what if someone'll come there from your work? :)
Me! 11/22/11 responder
Well that'll be cool press for my dad then! He deserves it.
11/22/11 responder
Oh wow! I'm actually constantly surprised by people who've come here from my dad's work! :) Well thanks for checking out my comic, and I hope you'll stick around!
11/22/11 responder
I'm already stuck :) Even followed you on twitter and tumbler, btw :)
Me! 11/22/11 responder
Ooh, awesome! Under which usernames? I'll follow you back!!!
11/22/11 responder
KimAndrey in twitter and AFAIK in tumblr ^_^
But I use my tumblr only for reading others' blogs and most (if not all) of my tweets are in Russian...(
Me! 11/22/11 responder
ow, not afaik but afaix :) I knew that something was wrong :)
11/29/11 responder
I would also recommend Chobits as the overall story is great, you just have to get past the fan-service. If you are not familiar with it, checkout you can watch One Piece eps almost the same day they are aired in Japan depending on subscription, and it is legal.
maldar 12/8/11 responder

... again how old are you? You should know that CLAMP is an all-female group.
James Crowe 11/19/11 responder
Of course I know that, and I've read MANYYYYY of their other titles. This was just one I hadn't watched/read, and it surprised me by being very...different from their other works.
11/19/11 responder
Oh, and I'm 14.
11/19/11 responder
i am nine. in fourth grade. how about you, James?
11/20/11 responder
29 and getting older by the time.
James Crowe 11/22/11 responder
I'm in 4th grade too...
11/22/11 responder
Check, check, check
Can I write as Emma? :)
12/1/11 responder
Sorry, but could you please pick a different screen name? Otherwise, it could easily confuse people into thinking you're me. Thanks!
12/1/11 responder
oh sorry I couldn't resist...
11/22/11 responder
If you guys are in 4th grade and you want a GOOD anime to watch (unlike Chobits) check out Azumanga Daioh. I started watching it in 4th grade, and the hat Chapel's wearing in this strip is actually one from the show.
11/22/11 responder
i will offer up a few more you may not have seen yet. "Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha" is one. it's not a typical magic girl show, it has cringe worthy fights, but a good story and it's a long running show. "Bakuman" is one of my favs, nothing ojectional with this and it's an intresting show. If you are looking for something more super hero like anime i command you to watch "Tiger & Bunny"! that or the "Iron man" the anime if you want a more domestic feel to your anime. Lastly, for something you and your mother might like, try "Usagi Drop".

that is just the start of it. I have been an anime fan longer than twice your life span so far Miss Emma.
Dr. Taxil Necrobane 11/22/11 responder
Unfortunatly Miss Emma a lotta good anime is too grown up for you. maybe in 2 or 3 years time you'll enjoy Chobits more... and you WILL enjoy it. It's one of CLAMP's better works.

If you haven' t already watch the really early Pokemon.... the pokemon your generation is being given is awful awful stuff. If you can find it try looking for the Live action Sailor Moon... it's hilarious, like Power Rangers but with girls and badly done soft toy puppets.
Another suggestion is Excel Saga....
No I'm messing with you. do not watch Excel Saga, it's terribly wrong on all levels (but funny as anything)
Actually I really wanna suggest Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 because it's really the kinda thing I think you' ll like
11/25/11 responder
Live action Sailor Moon is hideous, but they're currently re-releasing the manga! I'm really excited, because I've loved the series for a good 15 years now.
11/27/11 responder
Pokemon Anime is a monster of a long running show. you'll have much to watch from it, but my take on it is it's just to sell the game and it's not that deep. the Live action sailor moon is odd kick of a show, but i don't remember that it was ever professionally subbed or dubbed..... Excel Saga. no. Just NO. ><

Bubblegum Crisis? wooo Boy! now THAT is an anime classic! It's a bit on the violent side, but it was THE perfect example of the 80's belief of our future cyberpunk world. I still remember back when it was brand new too. That is a good one to watch if you can find it anywhere.
11/26/11 responder
Okay I'm totally gonna watch Bubblegum Crisis now! You had me at "cyberpunk."
2/7/12 responder
It is cyberpunk anime par exclent My Dear Miss Emma, oh yea, there is also Bubblegum Crash contiune to that as well.
8/14/12 responder
Oh man I watched maybe the first episode of Excel Saga because a friend recommended it...it is screwed up. I'll definitely check out Bubblegum Crisis!
2/7/12 responder
Ahh, sorry I didn't see this until now! My friend Jenny actually just recommended Lyrical Nanoha to me, so I totally need to watch it. Usagi Drop is the cutest thing ever! Bakuman and T&B I definitely need to watch.
2/7/12 responder
If you want to watch a good anime loke Azumanga - consider watching Lucky Star, Miname-ke and K-On! :)
11/23/11 responder
And you should ABSOLUTELY watch Dennou Coil and NieA_7 (NieA under 7).
They are not that fun but these are certainly what you'd call deep :)
11/23/11 responder
I've heard about Dennou Coil and I really want to watch it! What's NieA_7 about?
2/7/12 responder
Ahh, I love Lucky Star and Miname-ke! I've hear K-On's good, too -- it's a slice of life about a school music band, right? I should watch it!
2/7/12 responder
I just tried that.... but it sticks in a spot about the middle of episode 1. oh well.
11/22/11 responder

Chapel, I rented you some anime DVDs to watch after your surgery! I have the best parents EVER. Thanks dad! This makes up for your fainting at the dentist. Chobit. From the authors of Sakura. Im so going to love this! Jeez, the heroine is a scantily clad robot. Whats this about her on switch? Sam, what is this rated? CLICK Well, thats an inconvenient spot for an on switch. Sam, did you read ANYTHING about this show before you rented it?
