Hi! I'm Emma T Capps. I'm 14 years old and an award-winning, author, artist, and cartoonist. I created The Chapel Chronicles, a line of greeting cards, gifts, and webcomics starring a zany young
girl named Chapel Smith for my 8th grade project in school. You can follow Chapel's weekly webcomic on this site. I collected the first 32 comics into a 44 page comic book entitled The Chapel Chronicles Volume One, which you can purchase in my store. I'm now drawing Season 2 and the comics and my commentary are in English and Spanish!
I've been lucky to have more than 25 works of art and writing published in national magazines such as Creative Kids, Skipping Stones, and Stone Soup. You can read some of my published works by clicking the button below. You can listen to me read my story Seventeen Across from the Nov/Dec 2010 issue of Stone Soup at http://www.stonesoup.com/archive/writing/999.
I won a Gold Medal in the 2011 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for my comic Jam Days. I went to Carnegie Hall for my award and I'll always treasure that experience. I also won a Merit Award from California in the 2011 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for my poetry collection Postcards.
I graduated from 8th grade at The Nueva School in Hillsborough, California and I still miss it. I'm now being homeschooled for high school. I like fezzes, top hats, and tormenting my mother by playing the same song 50,000 times. My favorite writers and cartoonists are Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Eiichiro Oda, and Patrick McDonnell. I miss David Tennant as the 10th Doctor.
I miss David too! Matt Smith is good and all but he is no David Tennant.
This is pretty great. I'm sixteen, going to school in New Hampshire. (The Massholes call us New Hamshits)
I enjoy reading your comic. I find the references quite amusing...
Also, I am a HUGE fan of Doctor Who. I miss Tennant as well... he is my favourite (of the new Doctors)(also I have his signature :D)- however, I must say that Matt Smith is pretty darn good. He's cute- not as cute as Tennant, but cute.
Sorry, I had to have a little geek out there. Forgive me. You may also note my British spelling. I may live in NH, but I've been raised by English people.
Enough. I'm rambling. This is fantastic. I can't wait to see more! Brilliant.

Ohmygosh thanks so much for commenting! You sound really cool, I'm glad that you like Doctor Who too! Tennant is the best...I looked at your dA too, and I really love it! I hope you keep commenting!
WOW! That's really cool. When do you have time for all that? I mean like you have school and homework and other stuff. Do you have like any helpers, I guess I should say, that help you with your comic?
Of COURSE I don't have any helpers, that would be going against my personal code of doing everything myself! I'm homeschooled, so I have a lot of extra time to get everything done.
Wow! This is amazing! You look like an awesome writer, and artist! You also wrote, The Unfinished Jester in the May/June edition of the Stone Soup, and I have read it! It is awesome, you did a great job! Of course, you were younger when you wrote it (12), but it was wonderful.
Thanks so much! I actually wrote and illustrated a bunch of other stories for Stone Soup besides "The Unfinished Jester." You should go and check them out in my Published Works section. Yes, I am homeschooled! HOMESCHOOLERS UNITE! :D
Hey Emma! I am another compassionate write like you( also illustrator). I love your writing and illustrating and hope you keep writing. I actually found you off Stone Soup and eventually came to your website! I am just about to send my fith piece and I'm very hopeful to get it in!
I stumbled upon this comic this morning and have read the entire thing start to finish. It's so cute! You are a very talented young lady. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to share this site with my sister and 9 year old niece.
Oh wow, thank you so much! I'm incredibly flattered that you read all of my comic in one sitting. I hope your niece enjoys my comics, thank you for reading!
Hey, I was reading another webcomic that I like when I saw a little bit of a cartoon TARDIS on the side of the screen... and now I'm here. I'm glad to see another Buffy lover, though I suspect you're a Dawn-hater... which makes me sad, because I love Dawn. *Cough* Anyway. I also love David Tennant, but you have to admit Matt Smith is adorable, too. Neil Gaiman is also fantastic, and I'm sure you know he's written an episode of Doctor Who! It's odd to me that I perceive you as being so young, when really you're only 3 years younger than me... Anyway, I wanted to say nice job! I'm sure you hear it a lot. Still, we seem to have a lot of common interests... including Card Captor Sakura! Have you seen all the movies as well? I absolutely adore the ending of the second movie. I do hope you watch it subbed... and I'm really, really hoping that you've also watched Firefly, Serenity, and Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog. If not, you need to watch them! They're great! I mean, it's Joss Whedon, so there's like a 90% chance that it will blow your socks off, but still. Keep working at your art! I'd love to see you try your hand at realism. I started out with cartoons and anime-style drawings and then had a long stint with realism, and the rest of my art has really benefited from it, as I think yours will. Anyway, I'm sorry for the extremely long comment. Good luck!
Again, sorry I didn't see this comment until now, I really need to keep up with the comments on my About Me page. Yes, of course I know that Neil Gaiman wrote an episode of Doctor Who -- wasn't it good? I HAVE seen the Cardcaptor Sakura movies, and yes I do watch them subbed! I wasn't as crazy about the first movie, but the second movie was SO GOOD oh my god. I've seen Dr. Horrible, but not Firefly or Serenity yet. I really want to see Firefly, but the Netflix streaming had horrible audio quality and I couldn't watch that. I DO actually do plenty of realism, and my normal style is much more realistic than my Chapel one. You should check out my tumblr if you want to see! Anyway, I'm not sure if you'll see this response since it's horribly late, but thank you for commenting!
hi i littereally just got into your comic its really great i'm not some creepy old guy don't worry i also love dr who and star trek and hedgehogs are awesome and although i miss david tennent matt smith is carving his own niche in the dr who world
Ahh, wow, I'm sorry I didn't see this until now! I guess I missed a bunch of comments on the About Me page. Anyway, I'm so glad you like my art! Unfortunately, I'm now too old to illustrate for Stone Soup Magazine, but you can see my past illustrations for them in my Published Work section!
I'll admit, I was pretty amazed after reading through a bit of the comic, to then go to the "about" section and find you're only 14 and doing this. Keep up the work, the comics are charming!
You are one amazingly talented youngest. Keep challenging yourself. I just love your work and cannot wait to see how you refine your art in the future.
Emma, you're so awesome!!!! I love your stories and artwork in Stone Soup! I always look forward to seeing your work in the magazine. Keep up the good work! I wish I could write and draw as well as you!! :)
As soon as the first strains of 'Hanging on the Tablaphone' started, I knew I would love this. Cartoons combined with nerd-lore like Doctor Who, classic books and anime. Genius. Dunno why no one's thought of doing this before. You are a brilliant artist and have the same taste as me in your material(its so similar its scary actually). Keep up the great work!!
Haha, there are plenty of other webcomics with nerd-love! I just try to balance the geekery out with humor anyone can can get. I'm glad people are reading with similar tastes as me! Thanks so much for commenting and keep checking back for new comics!
We are TWINS! Oh my...... I'm a brunette 12 year old named Emma. I live across the country, but I am obsessed with stone soup, writing, drawing, dr.who, David Tennant, cartooning, and web design. This is scary. Anyways, love your work ;) ps, how did you make this website??
That IS scarily similar! I always knew I had a doppelganger out there somewhere...My dad made my website for me (he's a programmer so it's free labor!) using the platform Ruby on Rails. Thanks so much for finding me and commenting, twin!
Aww, thank you SO much! I love it when people who like similar things as I do read my comic! Keep reading, there's quite a bit more geekery to come! :)
I have seen your illustrations and stories in Stone Soup and out of all the writers and illustrators in the magazine, you stood out to me the most. It's too bad that you're too old to write for the magazine anymore; your work is really good!!!
Awww, thank you! That's really heart-warming to hear. I loved writing and illustrating for Stone Soup. It's sad that I can't publish my work there anymore, but I'm glad people can read my work online now instead!
Hi Emma! The first time I saw your work was in the Nov/Dec 2010 issue of Stone Soup, which contained my first published story. I'm inspired by young authors and illustrators like me!
Oh wow, I'll definitely have to go back and read your story! Stone Soup was the place where I really honed my writing/painting skills, so it's great to hear from other Stone Soup authors!
I fell in love with Stone Soup! I'll be lucky if I find another creative writing magazine as good as that one. I've now had 2 stories published in it, and may have a third. Sadly, after that, I won't be able to submit anymore. *sigh* But luckily, there are other good teen magazines out there too.
Well, the first one was called "Ghost Horse", and it was in the Nov/Dec 2010 issue. The second one was called "Diablo's Apology", and it was in the Sep/Oct 2011 issue. You can find the second one on the Stone Soup website under "Horses" or "Family" in the writing archives. :)
I said this before but I DEFINITELY remember "Ghost Horse" in particular, and so does my mom (who also reads Stone Soup). I totally know who you are now!
Thanks! Looking back on it now, I actually think "Ghost Horse" was pretty crummy (as far as how it was written... the actual story wasn't bad, but I want to slap myself when I read some parts of it now), but I was pretty hapy with my second story.
Hey Emma! It's been a while, eh? We should find some way of staying in contact, my fonty friend. Great drawings, by the way. :P
P.S. 108 lines on Tetris! Boo-yah!
I actually did wear the exact same green shirt every day during middle school, but I've since branched out. (I now have some BLACK shirts! Incredible!) The reason I always wore the same thing was, well, plain laziness. I just don't feel like deliberating over what to wear in the morning...
THANK YOU! I worked really hard on both the story and illustrations for 17 Across. I revised the story maybe 6 times, so I'm glad you like it so much! And there are some pretty amazing stories in Stone Soup, so that's a high compliment!
Hi Emma! I want to publish a book in Stone Soup, but I don't have any ideas. I'm wondering how YOU get YOUR great ideas to publish. Anyway, HELPPPPPPPPPP!!!!
I do still subscribe, but it wasn't actually 3 times, it was 6. I published and illustrated 3 of my own stories, and illustrated 3 stories by other people.
YAY!!! your art is still super coolio!
